Your MMUR Card and Physician Certification Are Separate

Florida patients must maintain two separate parts of their medical marijuana registration: the state-issued MMUR identification card and the physician certification containing their medical marijuana orders.

MMUR Identification Card

The MMUR identification card is issued through the Florida Department of Health’s Office of Medical Marijuana Use. Patients and caregivers need an active identification card to purchase and possess medical marijuana through Florida’s licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers.

Identification cards expire one year after approval. Patients and caregivers may begin submitting a renewal application 45 days before the card expiration date.

The current state application or renewal fee is $75. Online payments also include a $2.75 convenience fee.

Physician Certification and Open Orders

A qualified physician evaluates the patient, determines whether the patient qualifies for Florida’s medical marijuana program, and enters the certification and medical marijuana orders into the MMUR.

Florida law allows a physician certification to include up to three 70-day supply limits, commonly described as a 210-day certification period. A qualified physician must evaluate an existing patient at least once every 30 weeks before issuing a new certification.

A patient can have an unexpired MMUR identification card but still be unable to purchase medical marijuana when the physician certification or applicable orders are no longer active.

Beginning July 27, missing certification or order information may also prevent the patient from completing an initial or renewal card application.

What New Patients Should Do

New patients should confirm that their physician certification and open orders have been entered in the MMUR before attempting to complete the state identification card application.

1. Schedule an evaluation with a qualified Florida medical marijuana physician.
